In a significant development, the long-pending issue of land acquisition along a stretch of Ahmednagar Road has finally been resolved, bringing hope for commuters battling daily traffic congestion. The road widening project, which had hit a roadblock due to the acquisition of 15 portions of land, can now resume. The cost of land acquisition had been increasing annually, causing delays and exacerbating traffic bottlenecks on the 7km stretch from Wagholi to Parnakuti Chowk.
An activist drew the attention of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to the pending land acquisition and encroachment issues. The PMC has now confirmed that the land acquisition process has been completed, and efforts to remove encroachments are underway. Pending approval for tree felling, the road widening work is expected to commence soon.
This resolution brings hope to commuters, as the road widening project aims to enhance traffic flow and provide space for essential facilities such as cycle tracks and footpaths, improving safety and convenience for pedestrians and cyclists. The road, which witnesses heavy vehicular movement as the main route to Ahmednagar, has long been plagued by frequent traffic jams at various junctions. With the land acquisition hurdle now overcome, commuters can look forward to a smoother and more efficient commuting experience on Ahmednagar Road.
