Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Launch Pushed to June PMRDA Cites Pending Station Work for New Mid-Year Target

15 Mar 2026

The operational timeline for the 23-km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 has been revised, with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) indicating that full passenger services are now expected to commence in June or July 2026. While the project was initially slated for a March-end completion with an April launch, senior officials have clarified that substantial finishing work remains at several key stations along the elevated corridor. Although technical trial runs are currently active across the route, the extension is necessary to ensure that all safety protocols and station-level commuter facilities are fully compliant before the doors open to the public.

The delay has met with a mix of frustration and cautious optimism from the city’s IT workforce and residents in the Baner-Wakad belt. Commuters who have been navigating the heavy traffic on Ganeshkhind Road and the Hinjewadi IT Park corridor expressed disappointment over the pushed deadline but emphasized the importance of a seamless and safe launch. PMRDA and the concessionaire, Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd, are now focusing on accelerating the final architectural and electrical works at the remaining stations to meet the new mid-year target, which aims to provide a reliable transit alternative before the peak of the monsoon season
