Civic body faces uphill task to finish Vishrantwadi flyover before monsoon

18 Mar 2026

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is facing a rigorous timeline to complete the integrated flyover and grade separator at Vishrantwadi junction before the onset of the monsoon. Currently, approximately 68% of the structural work has been finished, but the most challenging phase involving the main intersection remains pending. To accelerate progress, the civic administration has proposed a series of major traffic diversions, seeking permissions from the traffic police to close specific carriageways. Officials maintain that providing larger work zones is the only way to meet the two-month deadline, as current space restrictions have significantly limited the pace of heavy machinery deployment and concrete launching at the junction's core.

Local residents and business owners have expressed growing concern over the impending diversions, noting that the intersection already serves as a massive bottleneck for traffic arriving from Alandi, Tingrenagar, Dhanori, and the RTO. While the authorities are modeling the new diversion plan after the successful turnaround at University Chowk, commuters are demanding weekly progress reviews and clearly marked alternative routes to prevent total gridlock. A joint meeting between civic officials and traffic authorities is scheduled for the coming days to finalize a breakthrough plan that balances the urgent need for construction speed with the daily mobility requirements of thousands of suburban travelers
