Days before the News were popping up on the internet, newspapers about Dehu Road red zone Why is the Red zone at Dehu road?... What is the disadvantage of the Red zone in the Real Estate Market? Why is the Red Zone required? Areas under the Red zone? Who will Suffer? The Dehu Road Red zone. In 2013 the defence ministry decided to increase the restricted area from 600 yards to 1800 yards or 1.82 km from the security wall of the factory. The ministry intends to declare the 1,800-metre area from the Ordnance Factory security wall to be a no-construction zone. Hundreds of construction, which have already come up in Kiwale, Ravet, Pradhikaran, Dehu Road, and other areas close to the Ordnance Factory, will come under threat (of demolition). The restricted zone was 600 yards, they had permitted constructions beyond this norm. Anyway, residents in the areas of Kiwale, Ravet, and Mamurdi are all united and they will put up a fight if the ministry decides to go ahead with its latest proposal. The defence authorities created a board of officers in 2000 to 'declare and classify' the Red Zone of Dehu Road Ammunition Depot. The board prepared a 'sketch plan' after surveying areas around a 500 to a 600-yard radius. Some parts of Dehu, Chincholi, and Talawade and some defence land totaling 439 hectares were to be affected by the Red Zone.
