Pune–Shirur Elevated Corridor Update ₹8,745 Crore Bid Finalized | What It Means for Wagholi and Pun

The Pune–Shirur Elevated Corridor is one of the most delayed yet significant infrastructure projects planned for East Pune. After years of postponements, the final financial bids have opened, marking a key development in the long wait. Welspun Enterprises has emerged as the lowest bidder with a ₹8,745 crore bid, while Adani Enterprises and GR Infraprojects also participated in the process.

This 54 km, six-lane elevated corridor will connect Pune and Shirur along the existing Pune–Ahilya Nagar highway. The alignment has been planned to minimize land acquisition and reduce congestion for daily commuters using the Ahmednagar route. The project is proposed under the BOT model in a Public-Private Partnership format, meaning the company will build, operate, and later transfer it to the government.

According to reports, Welspun’s bid is 45.95 percent higher than the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation’s estimate, which means a detailed financial evaluation will follow before final approval. Officials expect construction to begin around mid-2026, with a completion timeline of approximately four years.

If completed as planned, this corridor could cut travel time between Pune and Shirur from nearly two hours to around 45 minutes. For East Pune, including Wagholi, Kesnand, and Shikrapur, the project could improve connectivity and ease traffic pressure that has grown with rapid residential and industrial expansion.

However, the real progress will depend on how soon work begins on the ground. After 22 delays in the tender process, this development is a positive sign, but timelines must now turn into visible action

This video explains all facts, timelines, and data related to the Pune–Shirur Elevated Corridor project and its potential impact on Wagholi and surrounding areas in a clear, unbiased, and data-based manner.
