The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has earmarked Rs 550 crore in its 2024-25 draft budget to bolster essential infrastructure, including drainage systems, water supply lines, and road networks, across 23 merged areas. With a focus on accelerating project execution in these regions, PMC has initiated initiatives such as the installation of street lamps and the finalisation of project reports for drainage line networks. Despite the merger of these areas two years ago, residents continue to express discontent, citing inadequate water supply, poor road connectivity, substandard drainage systems, and insufficient waste management as ongoing challenges.
PMC administrator, reiterated the administration's commitment to addressing these concerns and assured residents of phased funding allocation and diligent project monitoring. However, residents advocate for greater emphasis on allocating funds to newer areas like Wagholi, emphasising the need for equitable distribution of resources to support comprehensive urban development. Additionally, concerns regarding inflated bills and non-uniformity in property tax collection from merged areas have prompted residents to seek intervention at the government level, signalling the urgency for collaborative efforts to address these administrative issues and enhance service delivery in these regions.
