Frequent Pipeline Damage Raises Questions on Maintenance in Pune
Water pipeline breaches on Paud Road and in Wadgaon created disruption for residents and raised concerns about Pune’s water supply system. The incident on Paud Road near the Kothrud police chowkey led to water flowing on the road, which highlighted recurring issues in Pune’s old pipeline network. A team from the PMC water supply department found a joint-level fault and repaired it, but residents pointed out that water had been wasted for hours before action was taken.
Another major water pipeline leak was reported in Wadgaon near the Katraj Dehu Road Bypass. The line was damaged because of heavy machinery movement during road repair work, which shows how poor coordination between departments increases the risk of pipeline failure. Water supply was stopped for a brief period to carry out emergency repairs, and officials said full supply will be restored by Thursday. Residents across both areas said that the lack of routine inspection and maintenance continues to affect Pune’s water distribution system and leads to unnecessary loss of water
