The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has faced mounting challenges in its efforts to dismantle the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on Pune-Ahmednagar Road, with progress limited to only partial removal. Despite the decision three months ago to dismantle the BRTS along various sections of the road, the PMC has completed the task only from Parnakuti (Yerawada) to Gunjan Chowk and from Ramwadi Octroi Post to Novotel Hotel (Wadgaon Sheri Chowk). This partial dismantling has resulted in ongoing traffic congestion and a rising number of accidents, particularly near Gunjan Chowk, Shastri Nagar Chowk, and Chandrama Hotel. To address the safety concerns, Yerawada traffic police have urged the PMC to take immediate action, including placing reflectors on the BRTS railing in accident-prone areas. While some progress has been made with bollards and signage at Gunjan Chowk, more comprehensive measures are needed to ensure public safety on this critical arterial road.
In the past three months, the Pune Municipal Corporation's efforts to remove the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) along Pune-Ahmednagar Road have fallen short, leading to persisting traffic congestion and a growing number of accidents. As of now, the PMC has successfully dismantled the BRTS only in specific sections, leaving hazardous conditions near Gunjan Chowk, Shastri Nagar Chowk, and Chandrama Hotel. Yerawada traffic police have intervened by requesting the PMC to enhance safety measures in these accident-prone zones, including the installation of reflectors on the BRTS railing. While the PMC has taken some steps, such as placing bollards and signage at Gunjan Chowk, a more comprehensive approach is required to address the ongoing safety concerns on this vital road.
