The long-awaited construction of the Y-shaped flyover and grade separator at Shastrinagar Chowk continues to face delays, mainly due to the pending approval of a traffic diversion plan. Although soil testing and surveys began as early as August 2024 and the official work order was issued in October, actual construction work hasn’t started. PMC officials say that the palkhi procession and monsoon season added to the challenge, while the traffic police have yet to approve the diversion or issue the necessary No Objection Certificate (NoC), given the critical location of the junction.
Originally designed four years ago with road widening in mind due to the BRTS lanes, the plan had to be reworked after the Ahmednagar Road BRT system was dismantled, freeing up enough space for the project. Now, PMC aims to begin construction by the end of this month, starting with the grade separator to reduce traffic congestion. The plan includes rerouting vehicles via Karne Road near Don Bosco School. In addition, because the site is close to the historic Aga Khan Palace, the project required and has now received clearance from both state and central archaeological departments.
