PMRDA Approves ₹2,626 Crore for 50 New Roads to Boost Connectivity

16 Feb 2025

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has approved a budget of ₹2,626.37 crore for the construction of 50 new roads to improve connectivity across key industrial hubs such as Ranjangaon, Hinjewadi, and Pirangut, as well as religious and tourist destinations, the proposed Purandar airport, and urban growth centers. The decision, made in a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, includes ₹203 crore for 10 industrial connectivity roads spanning 60 km. Officials emphasized that along with constructing new roads, the plan also includes upgrading existing ones, especially in areas like Hinjewadi, where poor infrastructure has been a long-standing issue. Industrialists and commuters have expressed the need for a structured timeline to ensure high-quality roadwork is completed efficiently.

Additionally, PMRDA has allocated ₹67 crore to enhance connectivity to nine key tourist spots, including Khadakwasla and Pawana dams, and forts like Tikona, Tung, Lohagad, and Rajmachi. Plans include developing a chowpatty at Khadakwasla dam, installing protective nets at Palshe waterfall in Mulshi, and constructing better approach roads to Mugao and Tamhini Ghats in Maval at a cost of ₹10 crore. A significant portion—₹636.84 crore—has been earmarked for building roads leading to the proposed Purandar airport to ensure seamless access before construction of the airport begins. Officials highlighted that these developments aim to enhance infrastructure, promote tourism, and support economic growth in the region.
