The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon begin a joint survey with the collector’s office to expedite land acquisition for the much-delayed Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project. Of the 94,000 sqm required, PMC has already acquired around 44,000 sqm. The remaining land, including any structures, encroachments, and potential legal obstacles, will be assessed in the upcoming survey. The road, whose proposed width was reduced from 84 metres to 50 metres in 2023 due to acquisition hurdles, is now set to return to its original plan if land acquisition is completed. PMC is also in talks with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for funding support, with NHAI expected to bear the construction cost once land acquisition is finalized.
To speed up the process, PMC is offering transferable development rights to large landowners and monetary compensation to smaller property owners. Civic officials are pushing for quicker cooperation from landholders to ensure timely progress. The 3km stretch from Rajas Society to Khadi Machine Chowk, extending up to Pisoli, has been partially developed, with work on service lines halfway done. However, local residents continue to face daily traffic jams and safety issues due to the incomplete work. The project also includes an underpass and flyover, currently under construction, which residents hope will ease congestion once fully operational.
