The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is facing a financial shortfall in its Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project, as the state government has not released the critical ₹200 crore in funds. To keep the project moving forward, PMC has redirected ₹30 crore from the 7th Pay Commission funds designated for civic body employees. With ₹50 crore already invested in the road work, exclusive of land acquisition costs, the remaining ₹30 crore will be allocated towards management consultant fees, land compensation, and underground cable relocation. PMC anticipates an additional ₹100 crore will be necessary to complete the road work effectively. Initially intended to widen the arterial Katraj-Kondhwa road from 15 to 20 meters to 84 meters, funding challenges led to a reduction in the road's width to 50 meters. Now, with the state government's assurance of funding for land acquisition, PMC plans to recommence the project after the rainy season, aiming to secure a total of ₹280 crore for land acquisition, with the state contributing ₹200 crore, and PMC covering the remainder of the expenses.
