Ghorpadi 70% of New Railway Flyover Finished May Deadline Set for Total Traffic Relief

12 Mar 2026

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has fast-tracked the completion of the second railway flyover at Ghorpadi, aiming to open the stretch to the public by May 2026, ahead of the monsoon season. With 70% of the construction already finished, the project received a significant boost following a crucial approval from the Railways to operate technical "rail blocks" for girder launching. These blocks are scheduled primarily during night hours to minimize disruption to both train schedules and local road traffic, allowing engineers to bridge the final gap over the busy rail tracks that have long caused severe peak-hour congestion.

The Ghorpadi area, a critical transit point for commuters heading toward Mundhwa and the Pune Cantonment, has been a notorious bottleneck due to two major rail crossings. While one flyover was opened in 2024 to provide partial relief, the upcoming structure is designed to completely eliminate the need for vehicles to wait at the gates. Despite the technical complexities of working near defense and railway establishments, the PMC Projects Department is confident that the remaining ramp work and the 30 to 40 phased rail blocks will be completed within the next three months, finally ending the daily "crossing wait" for thousands of local residents.
