New streetlights planned for Manjari Bavdhan and other merged areas

25 Feb 2026

Several arterial roads and residential lanes in Pune’s merged areas are set to receive improved street lighting as the Pune Municipal Corporation plans to procure around 2,400 new streetlight poles at an estimated cost of ₹5.27 crore. Civic officials said the majority of these poles will be installed in the merged pockets, where basic infrastructure like lighting remains inadequate. The poles, made of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), will be of varying heights and installed along with supporting electrical infrastructure by PMC’s electrical department.

The civic body has re-initiated the tendering process after earlier bids failed to attract adequate response, with officials expecting formalities to be completed in the coming months. Residents from areas such as Manjari and Bavdhan have welcomed the move but urged the administration to avoid further delays, citing safety concerns due to poor lighting and aging poles in dangerous condition. Elected representatives have also pushed for dedicated budgetary allocation for merged areas, stating that civic amenities like streetlights have lagged despite these localities being brought within PMC limits.
