Pune Sees Spike in Traffic Violations 4,071 Complaints Logged via App in 40 Days

24 Jul 2025

In a strong push toward citizen-led traffic enforcement, the Pune City Traffic Police have seen a sharp spike in complaints through their Public Traffic Police (PTP) mobile app. Between June 13 and July 22, 2025, over 4,000 traffic violations were reported by vigilant citizens, with more than 3,100 challans issued for offences like illegal parking, triple-seat riding, wrong-side driving, and use of mobile phones while driving. The app, available on iOS and Android, has empowered residents to document violations in real time. With over 76% of complaints leading to challans, officials say the initiative has helped improve compliance and awareness on city roads. However, around 23% of complaints were rejected mostly due to unclear or insufficient evidence.

The initiative marks a shift toward community-driven road safety, with the traffic department welcoming the rising civic engagement. Officials say daily complaint volumes have remained consistent, peaking at over 200 reports on July 22 alone. The app’s ease of use and quick response system are being praised for encouraging responsible reporting and fostering a sense of shared accountability. “The more eyes on the road, the better our enforcement becomes,” said the additional police commissioner, adding that the department is studying data trends and may upgrade the app based on user feedback to improve its impact even further.
