Water supply across several areas in Pimpri Chinchwad was disrupted after Metro construction works damaged a 1,200mm Nigdi main pipeline on Wednesday night. The incident affected localities such as Chikhali, Talawade, Nehrunagar, Sant Tukaramnagar, Shahunagar, Jadhavwadi, Borhadewadi, and more. PCMC officials said repairs were carried out on a war footing, and supply was restored in most areas by Thursday evening. Metro authorities admitted responsibility, confirming that they will bear the repair costs, while utility shifting work is planned to avoid repeat incidents.
However, activists and residents criticized the lack of coordination between PCMC and Maha Metro, calling it negligence that forced citizens to go without water on their scheduled supply day. Many highlighted that water supply is already on alternate days, and the disruption during Navratri caused major inconvenience. Activists demanded legal action against Metro officials, while residents also flagged poor road conditions along the Nigdi–Pimpri stretch due to ongoing works, stressing that ultimately, it is the public that suffers because of weak inter-agency coordination.
