Pune Metro to Run Nonstop for 41 Hours During Ganesh Visarjan Weekend

07 Sep 2025

Pune Metro is set to make history this Ganesh Visarjan weekend by running uninterrupted for 41 hours, ensuring smoother travel for thousands of devotees and daily commuters. Starting Saturday morning and continuing until late Sunday night, MahaMetro will operate around 1,390 trips on the Vanaz–Ramwadi and Pimpri Chinchwad–Swargate routes. With trains arriving every three minutes on busy stretches, passengers can expect faster travel and shorter waiting times. Key stations like Mandai, Kasba Peth, Shivajinagar Court and Swargate are expected to witness heavy footfall, and commuters have been urged to use alternate entry and exit points to avoid congestion.

Officials have deployed additional manpower in two shifts to manage the festive rush, while a special operational plan has been prepared for the high-demand Shivajinagar Court–Swargate stretch. Experts have welcomed the move, saying it will ease road congestion, reduce emissions, and encourage people to switch from private vehicles to public transport during the city’s busiest cultural weekend. Passenger associations too have praised the decision, seeing it as a step towards making mass transit an integral part of Pune’s urban life. By keeping trains running nonstop, Pune Metro is not just meeting festive mobility needs but also showcasing how modern infrastructure can align with cultural traditions while promoting greener travel.
