The Metro connectivity in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad is set for significant expansion with a budget allocation of ₹838.96 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal. Maha Metro plans to use a major portion of these funds for the PCMC-Nigdi and Swargate-Katraj extensions while completing the remaining work on Phase-1 routes. The funds, including the Union government’s share, will be disbursed as per project progress. Metro operations are running at full speed, ensuring there will be no funding shortage this year. With the full opening of the PCMC-Swargate and Vanaz-Ramwadi routes in October 2024, ongoing work continues on station construction at Khadki and Range Hills. Groundwork has begun for the Pimpri-Nigdi extension, and work on the underground Swargate-Katraj metro route is expected to start within two to three months. Maha Metro aims to complete the Pimpri-Nigdi stretch within the next two and a half years.
Additionally, the Centre has allocated ₹230 crore for the Mula-Mutha pollution abatement project for 2025-26. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has already received nearly ₹300 crore, with another ₹100 crore from the state government. An additional ₹200 crore will be disbursed within two months, leaving ₹240 crore yet to be allocated from the total sanctioned funds. The budget will accelerate the construction of sewage treatment plants (STPs), with five STPs set for approval in July and five more in December. A final STP awaits government land allocation, with officials citing previous funding delays as a reason for the project’s slow progress.
