The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is eagerly awaiting clearance from the Centre for its detailed project report (DPR) to proceed with the ambitious 699 km Pune-Bengaluru highway under the Bharatmala project. This highway project aims to revolutionise transportation between the two IT cities, reducing travel time from the current 12 hours to just seven hours and shortening the distance by almost 100 km. To achieve this, over 2,000 hectares of land will be acquired from 119 villages in Pune, Satara, and Sangli districts in Maharashtra, while the Karnataka government will be responsible for acquiring the remaining 5,456 hectares in 12 districts. The highway forms part of Phase 2 of the Bharatmala project and is designed for a maximum speed of 120 km/h, with expandable capacity of up to eight lanes. Once the Centre's clearance is obtained, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will expedite the land acquisition process and collaborate with MSRDC to bring this transformative project to fruition, enhancing road connectivity and easing travel between Pune and Bengaluru.
The proposed Pune-Bengaluru highway represents a crucial development in India's transportation infrastructure, with its potential to alleviate congestion on the saturated existing route (NH-4) and significantly improve road connectivity between the two major cities. The strategic alignment of this highway will not only reduce travel time and distance but also stimulate regional economic growth and development. The collaboration between MSRDC and NHAI is pivotal in implementing this project effectively, with MSRDC overseeing the development in Maharashtra and NHAI coordinating the land acquisition in Karnataka. As the final clearance is anticipated in September, both agencies are eagerly awaiting the green light to embark on this transformative journey that promises to benefit millions of commuters and propel the progress of the Pune-Bengaluru corridor, ushering in a new era of efficiency, connectivity, and prosperity.
