Pune-Nagar Road Woes MLA Demands Urgent Fixes for Traffic Pedestrian Safety

13 Jun 2025

Residents along Pune-Nagar Road, particularly in Viman Nagar, are increasingly frustrated with worsening traffic congestion, poor pedestrian infrastructure, and lack of public amenities. Despite a signal-free corridor easing vehicle flow through stretches like Yerwada, Ramwadi, Kharadi Bypass, and more, safety and convenience for pedestrians remain major concerns. On June 11, 2025, the MLA of Wadgaonsheri submitted a formal memorandum to the Pune Municipal Corporation and traffic authorities, calling for urgent and practical fixes to these growing issues.

The memorandum outlines key suggestions such as realigning the misplaced road divider (disoriented after the removal of the BRT lanes), installing zebra crossings and footpaths, and adding pedestrian signals at crucial junctions. To enhance visibility and safety, the MLA also urged the installation of reflective boards at divider start points and directional signboards to guide traffic better. Residents hope these measures are taken seriously, as everyday commuting has become both difficult and unsafe especially for pedestrians, senior citizens, and school children.
