The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed constructing an underpass on the key road stretch connecting Mundhwa to Magarpatta at a cost of ₹67.3 crore. The underpass, to be developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis, aims to reduce traffic congestion at critical junctions like Kad Vasti and Jehangir Chowk, which frequently experience snarls. This would be the second underpass proposed in the Mundhwa area, complementing another planned at Mundhwa Chowk to improve access to the Kharadi bypass. PMC officials stated that such infrastructure projects, including underpasses and flyovers, are essential to address the increasing vehicular congestion caused by rapid residential and commercial development in Nagar Road, Mundhwa, Magarpatta, and Hadapsar areas.
Residents have long demanded solutions to bottlenecks in Mundhwa and Keshav Nagar, citing extended delays at traffic signals and overburdened junctions. While the proposed underpass and ongoing road widening projects, such as the Tadigutta Chowk to North Main Road stretch, are expected to provide relief, locals also highlighted the lack of a robust public transport system as a major contributor to the area’s traffic woes. With most commuters relying on private vehicles, the current road infrastructure remains inadequate to handle the growing traffic volume.
