Delay in Property Tax Discount Leaves Homeowners Frustrated
Many property owners in Pune who submitted the PT3 forms last year to claim the 40% property tax discount are still awaiting the rebate, leading to widespread confusion and frustration. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials have blamed the delay on incomplete documentation and unresolved administrative formalities. Citizens from areas like Kothrud, Bavdhan, and Sinhagad Road said the process to submit forms was tedious, and now there is no clarity on whether their discounts have been approved. Many only realized the issue after receiving their latest tax bills without the expected deduction.
Residents and civic activists have called for a more transparent and accessible system. Suggestions include implementing an online application and tracking mechanism, issuing updates via SMS or email, and establishing better communication channels. A senior PMC official said citizens can visit local ward offices to check the status of their discount, provided all steps were properly followed. However, citizen groups like Sajag Nagrik Manch continue to criticize the administration for its lack of responsiveness and clarity in resolving tax discrepancies.
