The widening of the 2.5km Patil Estate-Khadki-Bopodi stretch on the old Pune-Mumbai highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time by 10-15 minutes, with the main carriageway expansion from four to eight lanes scheduled to be completed by October. Civic officials stated that 65% of the project is complete, with land acquisition delays and ongoing Metro work having previously hampered progress. The expanded road will improve traffic flow, particularly in the Khadki and Bopodi bottleneck areas, which have been a source of persistent congestion.
The old Pune-Mumbai highway is a vital link connecting Pune city with the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, serving hundreds of daily commuters. The widened road will facilitate faster movement between the two regions. Additionally, PMC is constructing safety walls along the stretch, and has coordinated with Maha Metro to expedite the work in the Khadki area. Travellers have also requested improvements at the Khadki police station junction to reduce congestion from vehicles entering from nearby areas like Shivajinagar and Range Hills.
