Pimpri Chinchwad Faces Air Quality Crisis Amid Construction and Traffic Growth

16 Dec 2025

Air quality in Pimpri Chinchwad has remained in the poor AQI category for several consecutive days, placing the PCMC area among the most polluted cities in Maharashtra as per CPCB air quality data. Pimpri Chinchwad AQI levels crossed 200 multiple times in December, with monitoring stations operated by MPCB and IITM showing consistently higher pollution levels than Pune city, raising concerns about long term public health and daily commuting conditions.

Experts attribute Pimpri Chinchwad air pollution mainly to vehicular emissions, ongoing construction activity, ready mix concrete plants, and road dust, with PM2.5 and PM10 identified as the primary pollutants. PCMC officials say measures such as mechanical road cleaning, mist fountains, air bins, action against non compliant construction sites, and promotion of electric vehicles are underway, but residents and homebuyers continue to closely monitor whether these pollution control steps lead to sustained improvement in air quality
