Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Summer Water Woes Residents File 1,800 Complaints Since March

01 May 2025

Rising summer temperatures have led to a surge in water-related complaints in Pimpri-Chinchwad, with the municipal corporation receiving 1,810 grievances between March 1 and April 28 through the ‘Sarathi’ helpline. Of these, 1,143 complaints have been resolved, while 667 remain pending. The highest number of cases (390) were reported from Ward ‘B’. Residents in areas like Pimple-Nilakh are receiving water on alternate days, often at such low pressure that even filling tanks becomes difficult. Many housing societies, facing drying borewells and erratic supply, have turned to costly private tankers to meet their daily needs.

The city, which receives its main water supply from the Pawana dam, has been grappling with supply issues since November 2019. This year’s intense heat has accelerated evaporation, reducing water levels even faster. As of Monday, Pawana dam stood at 35.80% capacity. The water department has warned residents to use water judiciously, avoid wastage, and has already seized over 250 illegal pumps. Authorities continue to draw 80–90 MLD from Andhra Dam via the Indrayani River, while work to tap Bhama Askhed Dam is ongoing but not yet operational.
