Pune Metro Phase 2 Gets Green Light New Lines to Kharadi & Hadapsar
The Maharashtra state government has fast-tracked the Pune Metro Phase II expansion, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirming the prioritization of key corridors including the 32 km Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi line. This elevated stretch, featuring 28 stations, received Union government approval in late 2025 and is designed to bridge the gap between Pune’s historic central pockets and its rapidly developing eastern and southern suburbs. Additional extensions from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Saswad Road are also in the planning stages, with Maha Metro currently finalizing technical assessments to ensure seamless integration with the existing network.
While the government aims for an aggressive construction timeline, local commuter groups have raised concerns regarding the pace of execution, noting that only two lines have become fully operational over the last decade. Parallel to the metro push, the state budget has allocated funds for critical aviation infrastructure, including a new night-landing facility at Baramati Airport. This upgrade, along with similar facilities planned for Latur and Amravati, is expected to enhance regional flexibility for business and industrial travel, transforming Baramati into a more accessible 24/7 hub for private and chartered flight operations.
