PMC Withdraws Rotational Water Cuts After Political Opposition

07 May 2025

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has withdrawn its decision to implement a rotational weekly water cut in several city areas following strong opposition from political representatives. The cut, initially scheduled to start from May 5, would have affected localities like Dhayari, Suncity, Vadgaon Budruk, Hingne Sahakar Nagar, Dhankawadi, Balaji Nagar, Ambegaon Pathar, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Katraj, and Kondhwa. A press release from the water supply department stated that the civic body reviewed the water levels in the Khadakwasla reservoir and decided to stay the planned cuts until further notice.

The original plan involved areas dependent on the Vadgaon water treatment plant going without water once a week. However, BJP MLA representing one of the affected constituencies questioned the rationale behind targeting specific neighborhoods, prompting the PMC to reconsider. Residents in these areas will now continue receiving daily water supply as per the existing schedule, with no immediate changes in distribution.
