PMRDA Confirms March Deadline for Pune Metro Line 3

25 Jan 2026

Pune Metro Line 3 connecting Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar is moving into its final execution stage, with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority confirming that the March 31 project deadline will be met. Around 93 percent of construction work on the 23 kilometre elevated corridor has been completed, and trial runs are scheduled over the next two months following mandatory safety clearance from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation. Of the 23 planned stations, construction at 15 stations is close to completion, while system installations such as signalling, power supply and communication networks are in advanced stages.

The Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor is being developed under a public private partnership model and has already received 14 metro trainsets, with all 22 trainsets expected to arrive as per schedule. Authorities are preparing for phased commissioning, with the aim of opening most stations by the end of March. Once operational, Pune Metro Line 3 is expected to reduce traffic congestion on major routes, shorten commute times between Pune city centre and the Hinjawadi IT hub, and ease dependence on private vehicles for daily travel
