IMD Forecasts Continued Rain for Pune After Voting Day Showers

14 May 2024

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted light to moderate rain along with thunder and lightning activities in Pune. Following the city's voting activities, widespread light rainfall was observed, with Shivajinagar recording 2.9 mm of rain by 8:30 pm. The day began cool but became hot and humid by late afternoon, causing discomfort for many voters who also faced inadequate drinking water facilities at polling centres. However, the weather shifted around 5:30 pm as clouds formed, bringing widespread light rain and thunder, although this did not significantly impact the polling process.

Pune has experienced rain over the past four days, with Shivajinagar recording 28 mm and 40.4 mm of rainfall on May 11 and 12, respectively. According to a senior meteorologist from IMD Pune, increased moisture in the state is expected to cause continued rainfall and thunder activity until May 15. On May 13, the maximum temperature in Shivajinagar rose to 36.3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 23 degrees Celsius.
