Tragic Fire Exposes Proliferation of Illegal Factories in PCMC Red Zone
In a tragic incident at a sparkling candle manufacturing unit in Talawade, six lives were lost and 10 individuals sustained injuries in a fire on Friday. PCMC officials revealed that the factory falls within the red zone, situated just 1.8km from the Dehu Road ammunition factory. Concerns have been raised about the proliferation of illegal industrial units in ward number 12 of PCMC, encompassing areas like Talawade Gaothan, MIDC, IT Park, Sahyognagar, Rupinagar, and Triveninagar, with a senior PCMC official asserting that all 1,792 units in the ward are operating illegally. Activists criticized the lax approach of PCMC and local police towards unauthorized establishments, emphasizing the need for decisive government action to address the root causes of these safety hazards. Despite the devastating consequences of the fire, the incident highlights a larger issue of unchecked illegal industrial activity in the region, prompting calls for a more proactive approach from the authorities.
