Traffic movement on Pune’s Baba Bhide Bridge in Deccan Gymkhana has resumed during the daytime, bringing temporary relief to thousands of commuters struggling with long traffic jams in the Deccan Gymkhana, JM Road, and Lakdi Pul areas. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maha Metro took the decision after repeated complaints from residents and motorists about heavy congestion caused by the bridge’s closure for Metro work.
The Baba Bhide Bridge was reopened during Diwali in October but closed again soon after, sparking public frustration. Similar short-term reopenings had happened earlier during Ganeshotsav to manage festival traffic. Now, officials have decided to keep the bridge open throughout the day until mid-November, after which it may close again at night for Metro-related construction. Work on the cable-stayed bridge connecting Deccan Gymkhana Metro station to Narayan Peth is about 50% complete and expected to finish by December.
