PCMC’s Traffic Crisis Orders Immediate Release of Acquisition Funds

13 Mar 2026

Chief Minister has announced that funds for land acquisition in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits will be released on a priority basis. The commitment follows concerns raised in the Assembly by Bhosari who highlighted that over 60,000 vehicles were added to the PCMC region during the recent festive season, further straining an incomplete road network. Key projects, including the Pune-Nashik highway passing through PCMC and the larger Ring Road, have been bottlenecked by pending land acquisition. The Chief Minister has promised a high-level meeting to ensure financial resources are fast-tracked, while also directing the PCMC to coordinate a portion of the funding to complete these critical transit corridors.

Parallel to the PCMC push, the state government is overhauling the transit framework for the PMRDA region following the cancellation of the previous development plan. Minister of State for Urban Development confirmed that a new, strategic traffic plan is being implemented, focusing on the construction of 18-meter and 24-meter wide roads to ensure consistent connectivity. This "strategic planning" approach is designed to keep infrastructure projects moving forward despite administrative shifts, with a specific focus on developing the IT and industrial belts of Hinjawadi, Wagholi, and Chakan. By establishing a time-bound program for land acquisition and upgrading road widths, the state aims to bypass the legal and bureaucratic delays that have historically slowed the region’s urban expansion
