PMC Plans Coordinated Push To Fix Roads And Daily Commute Issues

06 Feb 2026

The Pune Municipal Corporation is preparing a coordinated action plan to address long-standing urban mobility issues by introducing a policy on overhead cables, standard operating procedures for road digging, and faster execution of pending road projects. The administration plans to work closely with agencies such as BSNL and MSEDCL to regulate cable laying and prevent repeated, unplanned road digging that damages newly built roads. Other priorities include shifting electric poles and DP boxes to ease road widening, improving road networks in merged areas, and completing twelve missing road links to ease traffic flow across the city.

Civic officials said several key road widening projects will gain momentum after land acquisition hurdles were resolved, including the long-pending Katraj Kondhwa Road widening and improved access roads to Hadapsar railway station. The municipal commissioner announced a citywide drive to remove road encroachments and confirmed that monthly review meetings will track project progress. A dedicated City Transformation Cell will coordinate between departments to speed up execution. Following the improvement of over 450 km of roads for the recent cycling event, PMC plans to continue road upgrades till the end of 2026 and is also considering developing a 1,500 km cycling circuit to support non-motorised transport
