State Approves New Pune Metro Routes Worth Rs 9,897 Crore to Ease Traffic Woes

15 Oct 2024

The state cabinet has given the green light to two new Metro routes in Pune, aimed at expanding the network to the city's outskirts with a combined estimated cost of Rs 9,897.19 crore. The first route, spanning 6.1 km from Nal Stop to Warje-Manik Baug, is set to cost Rs 1,765.38 crore and will include six stations. The second route, covering 25.51 km from Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Swargate and Hadapsar, is estimated at Rs 8,131.81 crore and will feature 22 stations. These extensions are expected to ease traffic congestion, especially in areas like Sinhagad Road and Hadapsar.

With state approval secured, the proposals have been forwarded to the central government for final consideration. As part of ongoing Metro Phase 2 developments, groundwork is already underway for the elevated PCMC to Nigdi stretch, and the Swargate to Katraj underground extension was recently initiated. However, Metro construction may affect existing projects, such as flyover work on Sinhagad Road, due to the installation of Metro pillars.
