PMC and Maha Metro Plan Next Metro Phase With Minimal Road Disruption

24 Jan 2026

As Pune prepares for the next phase of Metro construction, PMC and Maha Metro have begun detailed discussions to reduce traffic disruption during upcoming Metro works. The Swargate to Katraj Metro line is expected to begin shortly, followed by the Vanaz to Chandni Chowk stretch, the Khadakwasla to Kharadi line, and the Ramwadi to Wagholi corridor. These Pune Metro Phase 2 routes pass through areas where road capacity is already stretched, raising concerns among daily commuters about traffic congestion and pedestrian safety during construction.

PMC officials have urged Maha Metro to prioritise proper station design, especially entry and exit points, to avoid bottlenecks for vehicles and pedestrians. Officials stressed that poorly planned access points could worsen traffic conditions on already busy roads. Maha Metro has assured PMC that multiple technical surveys and ground-level assessments will be conducted before execution begins. In certain stretches, road infrastructure work may be jointly carried out by PMC and Maha Metro to better manage traffic flow and ensure safer movement during Pune Metro Phase 2 construction
