Commuters using Ganeshkhind Road and University Chowk in Pune may soon see smoother traffic flow as authorities plan to open the Baner–Shivajinagar wing of the new flyover by November. The remaining two wings, connecting Shivajinagar to Baner and Pashan, are expected to be operational by December. This long-awaited project aims to ease daily congestion on one of Pune’s busiest routes, which has seen years of delays and traffic chaos due to multiple ongoing infrastructure works. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is constructing the flyover, while the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) continues road widening efforts in the same corridor.
The civic body has also announced plans to widen the remaining stretch of Ganeshkhind Road from RBI Chowk to Sancheti Hospital starting November. Land acquisition for the project is in progress, with PMC already holding several plots. Once completed, both the flyover and widened road are expected to significantly improve travel time for those commuting between Aundh, Baner, Pashan, and Shivajinagar. Officials have urged coordination between PMRDA and PMC to ensure timely completion and long-term relief for Pune’s road users.
