The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has streamlined its building permission process by reducing the number of required documents and introducing stricter water supply checks. Starting August 1, the total number of required documents for all services will be reduced from 133 to 89. The PMRDA Commissioner announced that only essential documents will now be demanded, making the process less cumbersome. Additionally, water supply arrangements must now be verified before granting building permissions or occupancy certificates, addressing concerns about water availability in the region.
To ensure fairness and reduce the influence of middlemen, PMRDA has implemented a first-in-first-out principle using a numbering system, ensuring that files are processed in the order of submission. Dedicated staff have been allocated to each taluka for handling permissions and better data management. A senior PMRDA official highlighted that recent concerns raised in District Planning and Development Council (DPDC) meetings and legislative sessions about permissions being granted without proper water supply checks prompted the implementation of thorough monitoring systems and actual site inspections to address these issues.
