PMAY Housing Project Faces Criticism Over Quality Issues

04 Mar 2025

A report by CoEPTU has confirmed that all 4,883 flats allotted by PMRDA under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Sector 12 of Pimpri Chinchwad are structurally stable, though repairs are needed to address leakage issues reported by residents. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has directed the developer to complete all repair work within a month. The PMAY project consists of 45 buildings with 11 floors each, offering one and two-bedroom flats. Many residents, who took possession of their flats in 2023, reported leakages, especially in toilets, during the monsoon. Although PMRDA had earlier imposed fines on the developer and instructed them to address these issues, the number of complaints raised concerns over the construction quality, leading to a structural inspection by CoEPTU.

PMRDA officials stated that about 85% of the repair work is already completed, with inspections continuing for unoccupied flats to ensure necessary fixes. Frequent meetings are being held with society members to address their concerns and update them on the progress of repairs. The residents had protested at the PMRDA office in April last year, demanding urgent action. Besides leakages, issues with the sewage treatment plant had caused water supply disruptions, but PMRDA confirmed that the developer has now resolved the problem. Authorities assured that all remaining repair work will be completed soon to ensure better living conditions for the residents.
