The long-awaited Rajaram Bridge Wadgaon Budruk flyover wing on Sinhagad Road was finally opened to traffic on May 1, providing significant relief to daily commuters. Residents reported travel time reductions of up to 20 minutes as the new 2.2km stretch allows vehicles to bypass five major junctions between Rajaram Bridge and Wadgaon Budruk. The flyover, inaugurated in the presence of senior government officials, is expected to benefit more than 1.5 lakh vehicles that use the busy stretch daily. Regular commuters also noted improved connectivity to the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, aiding those traveling out of Pune toward Satara and Mumbai.
Despite the opening, residents say that only half of the traffic woes have been addressed and full relief will come once the second wing between Wadgaon and Rajaram Bridge is operational. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) began work on the flyover in 2021 and included provisions to accommodate future Metro infrastructure. The second 1.8km wing is expected to open by June, with ramp construction currently in advanced stages. Meanwhile, civic officials plan to monitor traffic on the newly opened stretch to identify any issues or bottlenecks.
