Pune cracks down on illegal construction waste dumping at riverbed

24 Feb 2026

In a strong enforcement action against illegal construction debris dumping, the Pune Municipal Corporation carried out a riverbed clearance operation at Kondhwe Dhawad. The drive was conducted under the supervision of the Solid Waste Management department along with Zone 3 officials and assistant commissioners Pragya Potdar and Asmita Tambe from the Warje–Karvenagar Ward Office. The operation aimed to prevent environmental damage and restore the natural flow of the riverbed affected by unauthorised dumping.

During the action, civic teams seized eight vehicles and a JCB machine that were found dumping construction waste illegally. A penalty of ₹25,000 was imposed on each vehicle, resulting in a total fine collection of ₹2.25 lakh. Senior health inspectors supported the operation, and officials warned that similar drives would continue across the city to deter violators and protect Pune’s riverbeds and surrounding ecosystems.
