Sinhagad Road Chokes with Traffic Amid Ongoing Flyover and Road Works

12 Aug 2025

Morning commuters on Sinhagad Road were caught in a massive traffic jam on the Manikbaug–Vitthalwadi stretch, as ongoing flyover construction shrunk the carriageway to barely half its usual width. The chaos peaked when some motorists, desperate to escape the gridlock, drove on the wrong side of the road. While police officials said the congestion had worsened over the past two days due to work on the Vitthalwadi-end of the flyover, regular commuters insisted this stretch has been a daily nightmare during peak hours. Adding to the frustration, footpath work just a few metres from the flyover landing and potholes near Bramha Hotel Chowk have compounded the mess, forcing vehicles to crawl and making office-goers late despite early starts. Many residents feel authorities should avoid taking up multiple projects simultaneously, especially on already congested roads.

Civic officials assured that relief is in sight, with the flyover’s remaining ramp work expected to wrap up within a fortnight. Final touches like tarring, safety installations, and lighting are already underway. To tackle the bottleneck, PMC plans to shift power utilities near the ramp and possibly redesign the footpath to create more space for vehicles. The flyover, originally slated to open in June, was delayed by early monsoon rains, but authorities are now prioritizing its completion. Senior police officials have promised on-site visits to assess the situation and explore immediate solutions, as frustration among daily commuters continues to mount.
