After months of delays and mounting frustration, relief is finally on the way for Pune commuters. The much-awaited University Road flyover, connecting Pune University Chowk to the RBI stretch, will officially open on August 20, announced Shivajinagar MLA after a joint site inspection with PMRDA, PMC officials, traffic police, and contractors. The flyover is expected to significantly reduce congestion on one of the city’s busiest routes, cutting down travel time and easing the daily grind for thousands of residents. Officials emphasized that the project is part of creating sustainable, future-ready infrastructure aimed at improving the quality of life for Punekars.
The project, however, hasn’t been without controversy. Originally slated to open in May, repeated delays sparked anger among citizens, with many suspecting deliberate postponements. Last month, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers staged a symbolic inauguration breaking coconuts and cutting ribbons to protest the wait. With the official opening finally happening, commuters are hopeful that traffic snarls at University Chowk will soon be a thing of the past, bringing long-awaited relief to daily travel.
