PMRDA Unveils ₹67 Crore Plan to Boost Tourism

15 Feb 2025

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has proposed ₹67 crore worth of projects to enhance connectivity to key tourist destinations in Maval, Haveli, and Mulshi talukas. The initiative focuses on road development, parking, sanitation, and security improvements to boost tourism and ensure safer access to popular sites like Khadakwasla and Pawana dams, as well as Tikona, Tung, Lohagad, and Rajmachi forts. The chief minister has approved the plan, which includes ₹38 crore for improving connectivity to forts, with roads being widened and constructed in critical areas. Additionally, ₹11 crore has been set aside for further connectivity enhancements, while specific projects such as Khadakwasla dam chowpatty development and Mulshi lake beautification have also been sanctioned.

To curb unauthorized construction, PMRDA has established a special committee comprising local officials, including the Sarpanch, Talathi, Gram Sevak, Police Patil, and Kotwal. With government approval, the committee will monitor illegal developments and promote legal construction practices. Currently, PMRDA oversees 700 villages but has struggled with enforcement due to manpower shortages. A survey identified over 9,000 unauthorized constructions, many of which have received notices. The new committee, with approximately 3,500 officials, aims to accelerate action against such structures, mitigating safety risks and preventing fraudulent developments.
