PMC Deadline Ends, But Drainage and Road Works Still Incomplete

31 May 2025

Despite a brief pause in the rains offering some relief to commuters, road users across Pune continue to face daily struggles due to ongoing drainage and infrastructure work in several key areas. Stretches in Navi Peth, Apte Road, JM Road, Paud Road, and Satara Road remain dug up, with civic officials racing against time to finish the work before the next bout of monsoon showers. The entire stretch from Ganjwe Chowk to SM Joshi Bridge has been excavated for drainage upgrades, and similar delays have been observed in Sahakarnagar and around Mitramandal Chowk. Locals question the timing and pace of this pre-planned work, wondering why it wasn’t completed before the rains began.

Residents say the slow progress is adding to daily inconvenience, with uneven roads, traffic snarls, and unsafe conditions. Some relief came with the completion of drainage work on one side of Apte Road, but digging has now started on the other side. PMC officials attribute the delays to weather and technical challenges, including reconstruction of old chambers and complex utility lines. They have now issued clear instructions: no new digging will be allowed, and private agencies must halt fresh projects. While the administration insists remaining work will wrap up in the coming days, residents remain skeptical about the timeline, especially with monsoon resuming soon.
