PM to Virtually Inaugurate Civil Court to Swargate Metro Stretch Amid Public Frustration Over Delays

27 Sep 2024

The Prime Minister is set to virtually inaugurate the 3.5 km underground metro stretch from Civil Court to Swargate on Sunday. This route, which includes three stations Kasba Peth, Mandai, and Swargate will help reduce traffic congestion in central Pune and improve connectivity with Pimpri Chinchwad. In addition to the metro inauguration, the PM will also lay the foundation for the Swargate to Katraj metro extension and inaugurate Solapur airport. The PM's visit, originally planned for Thursday, was cancelled due to heavy rain alerts, delaying the metro's opening.

Commuters, frustrated by the delay, have criticised the decision to hold off the metro’s operation until the PM’s availability, arguing that the service should be opened to the public without waiting for a VIP event. Political leaders from the Congress and NCP (SCP) have also voiced opposition, accusing the BJP of delaying the project for political gain ahead of the assembly election. Despite the inauguration postponement, there are growing calls to make the metro operational immediately for public convenience.
