The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has proposed major infrastructure upgrades in Hinjawadi to address persistent traffic issues, with an estimated budget of ₹650 crore. Key projects include road widening between Shivaji Chowk and Smashan Bhumi Chowk for ₹25 crore, a 5km stretch on the state highway towards Maan village for ₹584 crore, and a four-lane flyover over Lakshmi Chowk to ease congestion. While the tendering process for the flyover is nearing completion, land acquisition by the Public Works Department (PWD) is awaited to commence work.
Additionally, MIDC plans to complete the pending six-lane road connecting Baner to Hinjawadi’s IT park phases. Of the 5.75km thoroughfare, 2.5km is already operational, while the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will handle land acquisition for the remaining stretch. Residents and commuters have expressed frustration over bottlenecks at Lakshmi and Shivaji Chowks, compounded by increased traffic due to ongoing Metro work.
