The demolition of the Circuit House-end of Sadhu Vaswani Bridge is expected to begin in a couple of weeks as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) continues relocating around 120 slum families near the structure, with 80 families already consenting to the move. The PMC has started demolishing the Koregaon Park-end of the bridge after receiving a rail block plan from the Indian Railways. Local MLA has urged the civic body to expedite the demolition and construction process while improving alternate road arrangements for commuters, who have been facing extended travel times and congestion at key junctions like Wadia College Chowk and Bund Garden Road.
PMC officials stated the old bridge is being replaced due to its outdated structure, with piling and pillar construction already underway for the new one. During a meeting with PMC officials, the MLA also reviewed progress on another bridge over the Pune-Miraj rail track in Ghorpadi, aimed at eliminating rail crossing delays. This bridge, expected to be completed by 2026, has secured land approvals from railway and defence authorities, with construction initiated at the Ghorpadi Goathan end.
