A two-storied building on Jaffer Street, Pune Camp, collapsed on Saturday with no casualties reported, according to Pune Cantonment police. The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) fire brigade team responded, ensuring that the debris fell inside the building to prevent further danger. Although a small portion of the house damaged a parked car, the remaining structure was safely pulled down. The incident highlights the persistent issue of old, dilapidated buildings in the area.
Citizens and activists criticised the PCB for inadequate action, despite earlier public notices urging building owners to take precautions. Many residents feel the PCB is shirking its responsibility by not actively addressing the issue, with some pointing out the dangers posed to daily commuters. Concerns were also raised about the apparent inaction of senior officials, leading to growing frustration among locals.
