After Metro Pillar Tilts, Commuters Urge Strict Safety Checks

15 May 2025

A scare gripped commuters near Chinchwad Chowk on Tuesday night when an iron structure of a Metro pillar under construction tilted dangerously around 10:45pm, leaning towards a grade separator on the old Pune-Mumbai highway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the incident occurred within a barricaded area. Officials from Maha Metro confirmed that the structure was quickly removed using cranes and assured that a detailed investigation has been launched. They emphasized that safety protocols are being followed and additional precautions will be implemented at all pillar construction sites along the PCMC to Nigdi viaduct project.

The incident has sparked concerns among regular commuters, who are urging Maha Metro to step up safety measures across all active Metro construction zones, especially on high-traffic stretches like the old Pune-Mumbai highway. Citizens stressed the need for better supervision, including the deployment of staff and wardens near busy junctions and service roads. While the late-night timing helped avoid a major mishap, residents believe more proactive monitoring is essential to prevent such scares in the future.
