Maharashtra IGR Rolls Out Online E-Registration for Property Agreements

05 Sep 2025

Maharashtra has taken a big step toward digitisation with the launch of online e-registration for property agreements, introduced by the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) in partnership with the Department of Registration and Stamps. Panvel has become the first city in the state to implement this system, making it possible for homebuyers and developers to register property agreements without visiting the Sub-Registrar Office. The entire process — from drafting the agreement, Aadhaar-based e-KYC, biometric verification, payment of stamp duty and charges, to final registration — can now be completed securely online. Officials said this move will make registrations faster, transparent, and hassle-free while ensuring all transactions are legally valid and digitally tracked.
Developers welcomed the initiative, calling it a game-changer for real estate transactions. With instant access to digitally signed agreements, reduced paperwork, and built-in security features like Aadhaar verification and encrypted data, the system is expected to boost efficiency and trust in property deals. It will also cut down on paper use, aligning with sustainability goals. The first developer to roll out the new system said it marks a defining moment in India’s real estate digital transformation and will empower both citizens and builders. Many other developers are now expected to follow, making property buying smoother and more secure for residents and NRIs alike.
